FAQ

General Information
What size is the zine?
The zine will be portrait style, 6x9".
Is the zine profit or non-profit?
The zine is for-profit!
How will contributors be compensated?
Each contributor will be compensated with a physical copy of the zine and payment. Minors must need a guardian's/parent's permission to have access to their Paypal/Venmo for payment. If funds do not allow for whatever reason, all contributors will receive a free digital copy of the zine.
Can I donate/turn down my share of the profit as a contributor?
Absolutely! We will add it to the overall profit pool, unless you would rather us donate it to a charity of your choice. However, bear in mind that minors are legally not permitted to use PayPal without a parent or guardians' permission, so if you apply as a minor, your profit must be forfeited to the profit pool or a charity of your choice unless your parent or guardian has given you permission.
Can I join if I don’t have a Paypal/Venmo?
Yes, but please refer to the above question! Your share of profit will likely have to be donated or contributed to the profit pool.
Will artists be able to do multiple pieces?
Yes. They are allowed to do one more page. Only 5 artists are allowed to take two pages (spread or two separate 1 page pieces).
Will artists be able to make a piece that takes up two pages/spread?
Yes! If you are doing a spread, however, you are not allowed to do another piece. Only 5 artists are allowed to take two pages (spread or two separate 1 page pieces).

Note: If you're interested in producing a two-page big piece, please mention that at the end of your application!

20 artists5 writers, 2.5K words MAX5 accompaniment artists6 guest artists55+ pages worth of contentWhat is a guest artist?
A guest artist is an artist that is reached out to prior to contributor applications and offered a spot on the zine. They do not go through the contributor application process!
What is an accompaniment artist?
An accompaniment artist is someone who draws a piece related to/for one of the writings in the zine! Their piece will be displayed on the same page/the adjacent page as the writing. Accompaniment artists may also be asked to create their own individual page (if they’re interested in making more than one work for the zine)
If English isn’t our first language, can we still apply?
Yes! Please just ensure you can speak enough English to communicate appropriately for the zine. Mod Lotus can speak Spanish, while Mod Hino and Crow can speak a bit of French.
Are spoilers going to be allowed/included?
We are most likely not going to include any major spoilers from the manga specifically. However, manga-exclusive characters will be allowed!
How will Tanjiro’s earrings be depicted?
There is a lot of controversy surrounding Tanjiro’s earrings design, however, we will provide appropriate material for artists to educate themselves and give them the final choice on how they would like to draw them. Please do not send excessive asks or questions regarding this issue. If you have any more concerns about this issue, please send them to [email protected].

Contributor Application Questions

Of course! We will allow interactions with other characters, as long as Tanjiro is in your piece.

Yes! Please send an email to [email protected] before submissions close if you have any concerns about your application.
What is a backup creator?
As the name indicates, a backup creator is a creator who will be called on if, for any reason, one of our selected artists/writers has to drop out of the zine. Please bear in mind that, if selected as a backup and called upon later, you will likely have a very limited time to complete a piece for the zine (although we’ll do our best to give you as much time as possible).

Moderator Application Questions

Can we be a moderator as well as a contributor?
Yes! Please just make sure you’re ready for the additional workload having both of those positions entails.
What is the minimum age for moderators?
While artists have a more broad age range we’re accepting, we’d prefer it if moderators are at least 16.
Do moderators need to have prior zine experience?
Nope! We will accept any applications from anyone who wants to be a moderator. Obviously, experience would be preferred, but it’s not a solid requirement.

Contributor Application Guidelines

General Overview
• This is a SFW zine. Violent content is permitted, but nothing r18 in any manner.
• This is a major spoiler-free zine. Manga-only characters and minor manga-only events are allowed, but no explicit spoilers will be permitted.
• This zine is for-profit. If you do not have access to Paypal or Venmo, you must acknowledge and accept to either donating your share to charity, or contributing it to the overall profit pool.
• This is not a shipping zine. Your piece must be primarily perceived platonically, though it's perfectly acceptable if your ship slightly alludes to a ship (no minor x adult or sibling x sibling content).
• All content in the zine must feature Tanjiro as the primary focus. Other characters are permitted of course, but Tanjiro must remain the center of your piece.

Zine Specifics
• The zine will be physical, 6x9" size.
• It will contain full-color illustration pages, fanfictions with accompanying artwork, and physical and digital merchandise.
• 20 artists
• 5 writers, 2.5K words MAX
• 5 accompaniment artists
• 6 guest artists
• 55+ pages worth of content

Contributor Specifics
Artists, your piece must be CMYK, 300 DPI, 6x9", and submitted to us as a PNG file.
Writers, you will be allowed to write a maximum of 2.5 words (5-7 pages)
Merchandise Artists, you will be assigned a piece of merchandise based on your mentioned preferences in your application and/or your specializations. Each merchandise artist will do 1 to 2 pieces.

Collaborations
• No collaborations will be permitted outside of accompaniment artists' collaborative artworks with their assigned writer/fanfiction.
• Accompaniment artists will be assigned from the application process depending on your application responses.
• Writers and accompaniment artists are expected to work together and communicate frequently throughout the creation period.
• Accompaniment artists' pieces will be displayed on the opposite page from the first page of writing.
• Accompaniment artists may also optionally illustrate decorations and such for the other pages of the writing. Please communicate with your writer about this.

Application Rules
• Please review our schedule first to ensure you will have time to complete your piece for the zine project. Do not apply if you cannot be confident that you will be able to complete a piece before the creation period ends.
• You must be at minimum 14 years of age to apply to this zine. (Minors must have a parent or guardians' permission to use Paypal or Venmo, and thus receive compensation! Otherwise, compensation must be forfeited!)
• Please only select the options you are sure you would be interested in doing for this zine. If you select page artist, cover artist, and merchandise artist, even if merchandise artist is your least favorite choice, you will still have a chance to be chosen for that position!
• Artists may produce a spread (a landscape-orient artwork, as opposed to the 6x9"'s portrait style, that takes up 2 concurrent pages), or they may produce up to 2 individual artworks for the zine. If you are interested in producing a spread piece, please mention that at the end of your application.

Hi! I'm Mod Biwa, also known as Nicole. I'm 23 and go by she/her pronouns. I recently finished up my tasks with the first zine I've ever worked on, a Final Fantasy XIV zine called "Untamed", where I was a graphic design mod. My work with the FFXIV zine included animating advertisements as well as designing product showcases and other promotional materials. Aside from design, I love playing games, watching anime, singing JPop songs, and taking naps. I'm super excited to be working as a graphic designer on another zine, especially one that has to do with a character that I admire so much! Let's all celebrate Tanjiro together!!
